Two weeks ago I spent a week in the Tokyo area. One day we took a train on the Keio line to Takao Mountain (”Takao-san”), about 60 km from Shinjuku. We had lunch at Ukai Toriyama, arguably the most beautiful restaurant setting in the world. I’ve been a fan of theirs since my first visit in 1984. The restaurant specializes in yakitori which is a kind of Japanese BBQ. But the highlight is the restaurant itself. Most of the seating is in individual small “cottages” surrounded by lush vegetation, waterfalls and small streams. It is worth a visit.
