Red Pepper Restaurant, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong
[Note: This is a repost of an earlier posting, adding the photographs.]
Tonight we had dinner at the Red Pepper Restaurant in Causeway Bay. (Many people refer to it as the Red Chili Restaurant.) The cuisine is Sichuan which means the food can be very very spicy. I eat at this restaurant every time I come to Hong Kong. It is a treat. Be prepared for very good food that can only be described as incendiary. I would recommend the chicken stir-fried with dry chilis, the dry-braised string beans with minced pork and the smoked duck. The chicken is unbelievably spicy. Be prepared to drink plenty of your favorite beverage. The string beans are slightly firm and spicy with a hint of pork while the smoked duck is not spicy at all.
Only negative note? It is very enclosed. Not airy at all and although the decor is appealing from a traditional Chinese perspective, the decor reinforces this feeling. However, the food and service are top-notch, so you don’t think about this too much.

Tonight, I completely understood “the chicken with dry chillies was unbelievably hot”. I could only taste one little piece of chicken.
