Jan Suay Restaurant

Jan Suay Restaurant

This evening seven of us went to the Jan Suay (“beautiful plate”) Restaurant for dinner.  We had heard that the Italian style cuisine was good and we were not disappointed.  The restaurant is owned by Thai composer Danu Huntrakul. His brother Dani also contributed in that some of the plates and other ware were made by him. The decoration is an eclectic mix of Mediterrean decor with a touch of other European countries, mainly thru generous use of photos, dishes and other decorative pieces from other countries.

Enough about the decor.  We ordered 12 different dishes and I have to say that the food there is very good.  My favorite was spaghetti with pesto and tuna.  The tuna worked well with the pesto.  The spaghetti with seafood and baked eggplant were excellent.  The Italian sausage salad worked well although I felt that the sausage was not quite the right firmness for me.  The duck pate was exceptional with a large taste and creamy in consistency.  I like pate with a prominent liver taste and “bite” and this pate was spot on.  We consumed Penfolds Bin 389 Vintage 2003 with dinner.

Homey interior of the restaurant.

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in good Italian food.  As an added benefit, it is a family friendly restaurant with several families having dinner while we were there.  Prices were very reasonable.

It is not a high-end trendy Italian restaurant such as Guisto (or Calderazzo for that matter).  It is more along the lines of a local restaurant families can visit for good food.

Bon appetit!

  3. This restaurant is very intimate. Out of the way. Can be perfect for a couple. Upstairs is better as there is more room. Very nice atmosphere. I recommend it highly. And the prices are reasonable.
