Vancouver graffiti as urban art

Homeland

Vancouver Canada has some of the best urban graffiti that I’ve seen in a long time.  I’ve  always enjoyed street art for its vitality, color, emotion and design.  While in Vancouver three months ago, I made it a habit to prowl the Gas Town area at sunrise.  At that time of the day, the light adds a glow to photographs.  Three photos show some of the best representations of street art that I saw while there.  Will post others later.

These photos were shot with a Canon 5D and Canon 24-105mm f/4 L IS lens.

  1. Wow, these are some great examples of street art, particularly Homeland. There are many fine artists here in Melbourne(Aust) who have transformed the inner city lane ways.Great photos!

  2. Hi Maureen. I was walking from my hotel in Vancouver. In the old historic Gas Town area. Lots of graffiti in the alleys. Some of it was breathtaking while others were pretty routine.

  3. Great graffiti photos!

Barcelona and the Catalan region of spain in General has some pretty good graffitti artists also.

In Brazil I also saw some good graffitti, but not quite as prevalent, although they do have a rather unique style of ‘tagging’ font over there, very angular and wiry

  4. I used to live in San Francisco California and graffiti (and tagging) is common. Lots of opportunity to photograph graffiti. However, now I live in Bangkok, where there isn’t much. But going to SF in April. Have to make time to prowl for tags!
