Roaming Thailand – Quality of iPhone photo image

with 2 comments

Uncropped

Uncropped

Of course an iPhone is not capable of the resolution of the most inexpensive point and shoot camera.  And the photos are nowhere near the quality of some of the high-end Nokia N Series phones like the N96.  But for web uses, like a blog or simply just sending a photo via an email, it’s not bad. Take a look at the original photo and then look at the detail in the cropped image.  Not bad huh?  There is some vignetting in the photo that detracts from the otherwise great image.

My friend Foo Foo discovered that the iPhone is capable of really good photos.  Especially if the photographer is good.   And she is, as her photos show.  And because she always has her iPhone, she’s always ready for some cool shots.

Street photos, which camera? giant Canon or tiny Leica?

with 4 comments

When trying to capture people on the street, it can be difficult.  Sometimes you have to use a small camera that they don’t notice.  But that also comes at a price.  With a large DSLR with a full frame sensor and a large telephoto lens, you can take a photo from a distance and then crop without any worries.  But the problem is, people notice your huge camera.  It is a trade off.  Sometimes the small camera works; sometimes the larger.  So I carry both.  You have to be ready.

Trips to Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Delhi and Mumbai

leave a comment »

The next four weeks will be very busy with several trips lined up.  Right now I am considering what “kit” I should bring with me to continue blogging.  I have tried the iPhone and the Nokia N93 and neither is suitable for mobile blogging.  I will probably lug around my MacBook and a camera or two.  I am tempted to carry my Canon 5D with 24 – 70 f4 L lens and 70-200 f 2.8 L lens but will in all likelihood carry my tiny Leica C-Lux 1.

Blogging on the iPhone

Just checking to see if the iPhone is ok for blogging. Think it will work in a pinch but the keyboard is terrible.  Any other mobile phone you would recommend for mobile blogging?
